Welcome to the Camp Barney Medintz Alumni Link – the First stop on your journey through over 4 decades of CBM history and what’s happening THIS decade at Camp Barney Medintz! Everywhere throughout Atlanta and all across the United States, someone immediately identifies themselves as a “Camp Barney” person and sometimes even a “Charter Member”, meaning that they attended or worked on the staff in our first season – 1963! Today, Camp Barney Medintz is recognized nationally as one of the leaders in the camping industry. Our two 4-week sessions are comprised of nearly 1100 campers and over 300 staff. This remarkable CBM community includes the children of so many alumni and individuals who come from Atlanta, Birmingham, Memphis, Nashville, New Orleans, Savannah, Charlotte, Raleigh, Charleston, the Tampa Bay area, South Florida, Cincinnati and over 100 other communities from coast to coast. We also annually welcome campers and staff from other countries, including Israel, England, Canada, Australia, Belarus, Russia, Poland, South Africa and France. Every imaginable activity is offered at Camp Barney! Yes, many that were favorites in the “Early Years”, as well as a lot of new and exciting adventures in and around Lake Wendy & Lake Louis. Water skiing, wakeboarding, tubing, the “Big Banana”, horseback riding, all field and court sports, tennis, mountain biking, ropes courses, vertical challenge courses, zip lines (which soar 780 feet across the lake), canoeing, sailing, kayaking, the Blob, the Iceberg, the Log Roll, the Double Luge, scuba, martial arts, campouts, backpacking, fire building, lashing, whitewater rafting, caving, arts & crafts, pottery, music, dance, theater, video & media, journalism, radio, Israeli culture, creek hikes and much more! Our Jewish culture continues to be woven into every aspect of Camp Barney Medintz, from our creative Shabbat services and festivals, Israeli dancing & music, crafts & storytelling, live performances, and interactive programs designed for each age group. WE enable campers to experience our rich traditions, participate in relevant experiences and feel pride and “ruach” as they strengthen their connection to our Jewish culture.
Here’s a little chronology of facilities we’ve constructed over the decades. Note: our list does not include several early staff lounges or the always-relocating Camp Canteen!
