Headquarters

Our facility is among the best in North America! Located on over 500 forested acres surrounding two large private lakes within the Appalachian and Blue Ridge Mountains, Camp Barney is a spectacular setting to play, learn and work with children each summer. We are 75 miles NE of Atlanta. Campers and Staff live in unique cabins adjacent to the dining hall, gymnasium, crafts center, amphitheaters, lighted tennis courts, ball fields, the infirmary, equestrian center, lakeside pavilions, pool, staff lounge, beachfront and acres of special places to discover!

Our program is exciting, innovative and filled with adventure! Activities include: water-skiing, knee boarding, sailing, canoeing, kayaking, leaping off "The Blob," soaring down 180' double slides, balancing on the "Log Roll," or gliding 700 feet over water on the Zip Line, swimming in the pool, horseback riding, mountain biking, backpacking, reptile and "friends" nature center, technical rock climbing and repelling, low/high ropes courses, "tree climbing" and vertical challenge courses, tennis, archery, all field/court sports, batting cages, whitewater rafting, tubing, caving, panning for gold, theater, music, dance, crafts and folk art, videography, Israeli cultural programs, Maccabiah sports competitions, 4th of July celebrations, carnivals and much, much more!

Camp Barney Medintz is "home" to 1,100 boys and girls and over 300 staff each summer since 1963. Affiliated with the Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta, "Camp Barney" is a rewarding and exhilarating experience for staff.

"The Best part of Camp Barney Medintz is our Staff!" Yes, it is our staff who provides this very special experience for kids each summer and the reason they look forward to returning year after year. (We have an 84% camper return rate!) Our staff is selected because of their outstanding leadership, warmth and ability to teach and care for children, sense of humor, positive values and character, creativity, incredible enthusiasm, unique skills specific to their position, desire to be in a natural environment which engages children to appreciate their Jewish Heritage and become more aware of their global Jewish community.

Staff positions are generally sought between mid-December and mid-March, including administrators, counselors, specialists, support staff, physicians/nurses, trip coordinators and artists-in-residence.

Employment on the staff of Camp Barney is an opportunity (often extending many summers!), which is considered an extraordinary, meaningful and incredibly fun experience lasting a lifetime!
